Google have launched a new open source browser (Beta Version) today in more than 100 countries called Google Chrome. 

Google Chrome is a simple, clean and streamlined browser window that makes use of components from Apple’s WebKit and Mozilla’s Firefox, among others. Optimised for speed,  this browser runs complex web apps better by isolating one tab from another, and thus preventing the likelihood of one tab effecting the entire browser window. By doing so, this improves protection for the user who, for example could have been in the middle of entering bank details and would feel at risk if the browser suddenly crashed.

Google have also increased the browser responsiveness and have built a more powerful Javascript engine, V8, to power the next generation of web applications that aren’t even possible in today’s browsers.

All of Googles open source code is designed to create a collaboratative community to help drive the web forward. Chrome is far from ready however, as the web develops further with more options available to the user, Google Chrome will provide a platform on which the Web could be enhanced, with innovations contributing to our web experience.

Photosynth takes a collection of regular photographs and reconstructs the scene or object in a 3-D environment. Pretty cool I thought! I gave it a go and thought it was brilliant….it takes a bit of getting used to navigating around photos however once you’ve understood all the functions its relatively straight forward.

Browsing through the sample folders, I noticed that those folders which had more pictures that overlapped gave a better 3D visualisation and made it easier to navigate within the 3D shot.

It has been a while since I have seen something on the Net which has impressed me so much.

LivePlace have created a photo-realistic virtual world, City Space. Its rendering engine is built using OTOY and all computing is done in ‘the cloud’. It is claimed that the application will run on ANY browser on ANY spec device (mobiles included) with a plugin.

I suppose the premise is pretty much the same as Second Life etc. A virtual world where you can own spaces, customise them and make friends, but the graphics alone in this video of City Space are so engaging that it far outweighs secondlife. While secondlife brings interaction, City Space adds realism, and I think this is crucial. If we are to adopt virtual worlds, like many believe we will, they need to be erm…real.

Take 15mins out to watch this video. It is worth it.

If this doesn’t get your EBIN juices flowing…then I quite simply don’t know what will!

Cuil, pronounced ‘Cool’ apparently, is an attempt by ex-Google employees to overtake their former paymasters as the best search engine on the Web. They claim that their algorithms do a better job of understanding the content on the page, rather than basing its value on the number and quality of its links.

This type of ‘semantic search’ isn’t a particularly new thing, many have tried and failed, but I do think that the future of the Web searching is going to be built around understanding the meaning of the information.

Its search results page is, err different. OK it’s not Google, so maybe that’s putting me off… But I get the feeling that they are deliberately trying to do everything different to Google; from the layout of search results, to the fact that they claim to not store individual search history – even the colour scheme is pretty much the opposite.

I’m not sure on this one yet. Competition is obviously a good thing but will they have the balls to muscle in on Google’s market share? It’s proven quite difficult so far…

I wonder what Google think? What do you think?

Only when I heard that Vodaphone had adquired zyb, I realized such a service existed. Have you ever lost your mobile phone or had a serious computer crash and hence lost contacts and calendar events?

A service like the one provided by zyb may be of great help if you are familiar with the previous mentioned events, and its free, at least untill now.

I read that other users have come across this problem. For instance, whilst updating the addictive ENIGMO game, many users lost their saved game after updating.

I consulted the developer of voicerecorder who hadn’t yet come across this issue with his App and unfortunately was not in a position to help as iTunes is the cause of this. iTunes deleted the whole App and reinstalled it without backing up old files.

I hope that iTunes include a Back up feature of such files. It is frustrating that itunes does not have a saved files feature .doc, .ppt, .pdf etc inwhich a user is able to have a stored location which s/he can refer to when needed.

Well I look forward to the new release of Voice Recorder Version 2.0 out soon which will have the ftp feature which allows file transfering to Mac/PC.

If anyone else has encountered such Update issues, let us know.

Just wanted to inform you about a few of my latest apps recently added to my iPhone:

1. Google Mobile: Works great particularly with the Maps GPS.

Search for anything and Google Mobile will pinpoint your search requests that are closest to your current location. Then feel free to Call, Visit the Website or simply map your route to your chosen destination. Brilliant!

2. WordPress: Yep, keep up to date with your Blogs.

A great app to have for blog posting on the move! Only Recently added to iTunes.

3. Banner Free: This must be one of the simplest, effective (At the Bar: “Another Pint Please”) visual banner App’s available and its free. This is a must have App which im sure many of you will have a good time using. A paid version will soon be out which would have some additional features i’m guessing like banner speed and banner flash.
